The editing capability in Olympus's software is superior, but does not have this one feature. The mode button is easily bumped into a half position or a wrong setting. Most other such models use rockers or buttons to control the zoom, which are more fiddly in use. One interesting feature is how each mode saves the settings you used last--takes some getting used to, but I like it. Your camera should take care of itself. Turn the Mode Dial to the microscope icon and shoot as close as 1 cm from your subject.
I purchased this primarily for underwater - snorkeling and scuba. It is a great snorkeling camera combined with the optional fisheye attachment and you can get surprisingly good portraits with background separation if you use the optional telephoto lens attachment. I can't use the set time lapse or the 4K video without the battery life dying on me. Use the free Olympus Image Track app on a smart device to view and store your tracking data synced with your photography. I then looked at the format, which I was glad to find was a very simple one. One outstanding feature of this camera is it's separate shutter and video record buttons.
I was amazed how deep woods photos are so clear; in fact, I noticed that the camera was more sensitive than my eyes! The camera really shines as a tool to capture macro images of bugs and wildlife; there simply is no other system that provides the macro capability that this camera does especially when combined with the light guide attachment and flash diffuser. Makes all the difference and such a great travel photo experience. The entire system camera, fisheye and telephoto attachments, flash diffuser, light guide, and extra battery all fit nicely in the compact dedicated Tough System Bag and are easy to toss into a backpack and take on all your outdoor adventures. Please directly so we may address such comments. What bothers me the most about this camera is the battery life and trying to use the time lapse or 4K video. I really would like to see a selfie mode on this camera in the future, especially for family pictures and just quick point and shoot.
Matlab, Octave, or any programming language can be used to manipulate this data into a format readable by Garmin's BaseCamp; even a spreadsheet can be used, for crying out loud! Being used to the Lumix, I was concerned about switching brands. An exotic flower, a multicolored seashell, an insect on a leaf. Love this camera I keep take this camera with me everywhere I go. The camera keeps its connections and slots for its card and battery under double-locked, rubber-sealed doors, to keep water and dust away from the precious innards. I would love to be able to set a time for the time lapse to turn on, therefore the camera will turn off temporarily, and then come back on when I want the time lapse to start, vs being on the entire time.
For snorkeling I got myself an Aquapod and set the camera for a 2 second delay and then 5 images 1 second apart. The custom mode settings are great to have, too. Microscope Control Mode provides magnification in precise steps up to 44x. It is nice, though, that reasonably priced filters are available for this camera that work well. I love my Panasonic Lumix, but it is not tough enough and is far too bulky for use on the trail or road. It just takes a little too long to access the mode you want.
This is a great little camera that now accompanies me on hikes and Kickbike footbiking adventures. . It buffers a running series of high-resolution images, then captures a precise moment plus the previous 5 frames with a single button press. Image quality is good in natural light and underwater and the Raw files have decent latitude especially when using the Olympus Image Viewer. In bright, outdoor light, its shots are lively and vibrant, displaying a decent amount of detail.
From one scientist to another, I find this surprising. I always had the camera handy for spontaneous shots without worrying about damage from the elements or when slinging my pack on and off the ground. One reviewer took issue with the fact that you need an app to access the tracking features of this camera. And I couldn't be happier. It buffers a running series of high-resolution images, then captures a precise moment plus the previous 5 frames with a single button press. This makes it trickier to turn, until you clean it out with a toothbrush or blower.
This little gem, built like a tank, also takes great pictures and videos comparable or better than the Lumix. Effortlessly capture fast moving subjects without blur thanks to the bright F2. Only registered users can write reviews. The software is great, but not as good as Photobase that Panasonic provides. I enjoy using the features it contains, it shoots raw, if you want a fun camera to shoot this is it. There is an auto-correct in that program that is simply unbelievable! What happen to the some of the other modes? It would be nice for a lens cap be included, tethered in some way to prevent it from being lost I keep dropping it. For longer adventures, the 4K Time Lapse feature lets you easily create short videos of extended periods of time.
Action Track Sensors record location, temperature, direction, and altitude data that bring your images and video to life. Focus peaking works great with the focus lock and manual focus for capturing great macro shots with an out of focus background. Why, because it fits in my pocket, it is great for quick landscape photos, great for work, great for macro, great for church activities, and so much more. Designed to bring back amazing looking souvenirs. I find that this is where the custom mode settings C1, C2 come in handy.
Capture fast moving subjects without blur thanks to the bright F2. Otherwise I would recommend this camera looking for their next hiking camera, rafting, tubing, macro startup , 4K video, wants a pro camera in a point and shoot camera, and whatever you can think of. Waterproof to 15 metres, freeze-proof to -10ºC, crush-proof to a pressure of 100kg, sealed against dust and sand, protected against drops of up to 2. Easily export stills and videos with data overlays to relive and share your adventures. Use Pro Capture Mode to nail perfect shots that require split second timing. Viewed at normal size, however, pictures are impressive. I don't have to worry about missing that great photo op, at least not anymore! Use the Focus Bracketing and Focus Stacking Modes to easily create images with maximum depth of field and razor sharp focus.
